Featured here are all the rough sketches, unused designs and colors tests me and Alpha2 did for our Rainbow Brite redesign project.

Can't help but look through all of these and wonder where Starlight is.

We didn't do any horses since we felt the designs wouldn't change too much.

This may be my imagination, but I see some Bleedman influence in the early concepts, which is cool. I think I prefer the second Lurky on here, but yeah, I can see you merged the two deisgns into your final Lurky. I think my fave on this would be Patty. She looks like the girl who always wears dresses, even if she tumbles down a hill. Nice work.

Among the 7 Color kids, Patty was the one we really had to put some thought into. I felt the first design with a mini-skirt didn't capture her personality. So I told Alpha she need to have a cuter, more girly dress. He argued back that she's a tomboy and a prankster, so I told him to give her some big GoGo boots with laces, which will make her less feminine and give a slight mismatch on the visual. We ended up basing her outfit on a traditional Irish dance dress.

pretty neat to look at the concept lineart of the characters! The other sprite concepts could work for the other head sprites. The surprised sprite concept seems to suit Nite Sprite. The confident concept Sprite could work for Champ. I loved the booty shaking Canary Yellow. That made me laugh a little bit. I liked how you merged the two concepts for Lurky into the finalized design. That was a smart choice. I think i actually prefer the concept Moonglo's style over the finalized choice, but from a designer's perspective I would have gone with the longer skirt - less details to work with. I notice theres no concept lineart of Buddy Blue or was he basically an unanimous design from the start?

Overall, wonderful details and thanks for sharing this wonderful piece with us!

I felt that Moonglow with a short skirt did not fit the top half of her outfit so I asked Alpha to make it longer.

When Alpha turned in Buddy Blue we both felt that was pretty much it. He had a few color tests but not big enough of a difference so I didn't bother posting it.

Thank you again! Rainbow Brite was the first one we tackled and she pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the cast.
